Neysa Miller responding to Bunker Roy: Learning from a barefoot movement

The lesson about teaching and learning from the barefoot movement is that” everyone is capable of learning and everyone is capable of teaching”.  As teachers, we often think we are “professionals” and are capable of providing students with all of the necessary skills and tools to learn.  With that mindset, we often neglect the most effective teachers in the room.  If we would provide our students with opportunities to share their skills, collaborate, and “look for solutions within”, the learning experience would be intensified.
The barefoot movement has major implications for school administrators.  The movement calls people to “look for solutions within”.  This reminds me that our most successful school rules and policies were made in collaboration between the administration, faculty, and staff.  The barefoot movement reminds me of the saying “it takes a village”.

  1. Yvette,
While reading your response to my post, I thought about Dr. Skipper.
That is exactly what he was doing when he asked us to submit things that that we wanted to learn about.
As I learned from Sugata Mitra, "when you have interest, you have education".

  2. Yvette,
I wanted to acknowledge your efforts because all you do for your students is often "behind the scenes". I have always admired the way you seek out innovative and creative ways to engage your students. You have always put the needs of your students first by offering extra challenges and support in unconventional ways. Your willingness to embrace and incorporate new strategies and techniques in your classroom is what will continue to have a positive impact on your students and co-workers.
