Neysa Miller responding to Sugata Mitra: The child-driven education

The most valuable and unforgettable lesson about learning was the simple statement, “when you have interest, you have education.”  I think that statement seems fairly simple but when applied to a classroom, it can make a huge impact on the education of students.  Sugata Mitra’s experiments demonstrate the roles that children can play  in their own education.   His Self- Organized Learning Environment proves “that groups of children can learn on their own.” It also teaches us that students can be successful in the learning process when given a challenge that looks impossible!
The implications for my teaching include rethinking and redesigning more effective methods of instruction.  I think by giving students the opportunity to self-organize in the learning process would ensure them initial and long-term success.  It would also provide them with the skills to be successful life-long learners
